[Astra has a cleaned-out planter as a bucket and is using it to wash herself in the canal. No soap or anything, just rinsing herself. Very thoroughly. ]

[Coming over to sit down on the fountain's edge.]

I said I'd do the washing, you know. You needn't flit about in the night to see it done now.

It would be a terrible thing, for an older sister to push her responsibilities onto her younger brother.

You might be surprised by how much responsibility I'm able to manage.

[And he's wearing this expression, sure, but he's looking you over pretty closely.]

[she's quiet for a while. just staring down into the water.

and then she gestures for him to come closer.]

[Scoots over to sit beside you.]

[she offers one arm, where the red water seems thicker than water should be. he can smell blood when she's close enough.]

You may as well take a meal.

[A slight pause, as though he's taking it in. Then:]

Well. We're off to an early start this year, aren't we?

We do seem to be, yes.

Might I ask the cause of the altercation?

Territorial skirmish. She drew closer to our border than I liked, she's a bit of a hothead who doesn't like being ordered around, it turned into a fight and the fight went very badly for her. The killing happened far enough from our territory that no one should be suspicious of us in particular, and I was careful to leave no evidence.

And the body?

Left where it lay, unfortunately. Somewhat out of the way but not hidden. Truth be told I haven't determined the best place to hide one yet, and obviously it would be mad to linger or drag it around looking.

Less than ideal, that's for certain.

[He runs a finger through the blood and pops it in his mouth.]

Still, all told it might have gone a great deal worse.
