We'll want for a great deal by way of resources, if we give in to that demand.

They can't mean limit trading - they would cripple themselves as well.

In terms of alliance, then?

They would be our one and only.

A romantic notion, to be sure. And one that may last us the whole of the war. It also means that whoever they choose if not us, they intend to be a steadfast force. There are but six of us, and paranoia can cripple any coupling.

Although the question begs itself: are they the romantics, or do they hope that we are?

Hope grants us no favors.

[drums his fingers.]

We need not trust them at their word. They could be bound to it regardless.

[Gauging your expression.]

If we settled upon terms the both of us found pleasing.

Mm. They're reckless. But their company isn't bad. A more dangerous ally would set a different tone for our war, to be sure.

It's all awfully complicated.

Complicated, but needed. It wouldn't do to get off to a poor start.

Yes, yes. Well, no sense in not doing what we like. Do you like them?

[direstnews]

I'm not certain "like" should factor into it very much.

[withswagger]

Obviously we must be willing to beat them. But this war will sour us all. If we'll be spending our time with them, we had best enjoy that time.

Then for the time that we'll spend, I imagine it will be pleasant enough.
